Hey! I'm not childless, but I think this is the most awesome blog I have ever found! This got sincere laughter out of me. I read some of your other stuff too and saw the moms that got all sensitve and deffensive and they are retarded. I use to be a SAHM and still see the truth in many of the posts that all these moms are so defensive about..it's the truth and they know it. It's just not sugar coated and glamorized. SAHM=not glamorous AT ALL.
Aside of your humor, I enjoy your blog as it gives me insight to many of my friends perspectives. I'm 25 with a 4 and 2 year old and all my closest friends are childless..I bet I annoy them on a regular basis! I would never push them to TRY to get pregnant though. I don't have any regrets, but really...it can wait. What's up with it being trendy to get pregnant? Like babys are the new tea cup pooch or something? I don't know if it's just in my area of the world, but it's really like a craze around here with the teens and young 20 year olds.

I've also found that there are a number of oldser women [more needed in all age groups} don't romanticize or glamourized motherhood. And knowing I don't want or plan on having children they confide in me the reality check they got when they had kids, some admit how having a kid/children put their lives on hold, some that it was a mistake, over rated, the death of their relationship etc. and they commend me for not falling into the trap if not for not wanting kids at least for not being yet another satistic and having out of wedlock children with various men. Yep we all know those women they whine out of one side of their mouth about how hard they have it but then out of the other side they lay on the single parent mantra patting themselves on the back and awaiting accolades as if they've done something heroic.

Unfortunately, the number of women who think I should have a kid simply because I have a vagina far exceed the type of women listed above. These prime examples of why I dislike the vast majority of women tell me I'll change my mind. Uh, I'll be 37 this June while a woman with a breeders mentality would be in a panic I don't hear shit ticking and instead I'm rather smug about being smarter than the women that fell for the con and thanking God I'm not stuck having to look at, raise or be connected to some asshole because I was so sprung for a moment that I felt I had to "honor" him by having his child. Sandra Bullock should be thanking her lucky stars too that she stayed true to herself and didn't go with Hollywood's latest must have accessory. Her philandering husband [hopefully soon to be ex ] can continue screwing redlight district whores, raising HIS own damn kids with one of the carnival chicks he's so fond of while Sandra signs on the dotted line and walks away minus the baggage of having some lil Jesse James clawing at her ankles.

Nice to have you back CFC! I am one of those 40 year old women with two kids, one older, one younger. But I completely fit the bill with what you describe here.
Motherhood is okay, and it has it's sublime moments, but it's not the be all end all...infact a lot of the time I would like to pull my hair out with frustration.
I greatly enjoy activities that require me to use my brain, and my opinion, etc...things do not revolve around my sons in *any* way. I don't feel a woman should have to lose herself completely just because she has children, and I have always refused to let it happen to me--this comes at a price though, in having to deal with people who think you're selfish, just because you want a little time to yourself.
I've learned the fine art of telling people to butt the hell out and mind their own business.:)

I totally agree. Over the last two or three years, I've become very close friends with a coworker with an 18 year old son and a 22 year old daughter. She never goes on and on about them the way my friends with young children do. Usually when she mentions them it has to do with wishing they would hurry up and become independent adults and quit asking her for money. Then she tells me how lucky I am not to have children. Don't get me wrong, she seems like a good mother and obviously loves them but she doesn't try to pretend that being a mother is the greatest thing in the whole world.

I work with women in their mid 40's, most with kids in their mid 20's. I rarely if ever hear a single negative word about my life choices to not have children and they are not afraid to say how financially strapping, stressful and hard it is to have and raise kids. Hmmm...sounds like something I need to get with. I am forming a good relationship with my vocal coach; she's in her 40s and has two kids and her life is not ALL about 'em.

Other than that, my circle of friends consist of you, associates with whom I e-mail more than I actually see and talk with in real life, a couple of potentials that I have yet to meet and my husband's friends. Amen! The women in my bellydance class, many of whom are the 40 and over crowd, were amazing, fun women. Most of them had children, but they didn't go on and on about them because the kids were old. They had a lot of confidence, were friendly, giving and were proud of their bodies (which also might be because of the bellydancing). They were not super self conscious. Even the older women with young children didn't talk endlessly about their kids. I think it's just an over 40 thing. They know they're more than a mother.

I am a mom of two young children and pretty much get so sick of the stupidity and ridiculous stories of most of the mommies of younger children...I agree with you one hundred percent...I can't stand the hens who cluck all over the parking lot at the school of my young children. Older moms or non moms are way more interesting and I would take their company any day. Can't stand those HENs!

I completely agree with you. Most of my girlfriends are 50-ish empty nesters. We go out, have a good time, and any discussion we do have about their kids generally involves things we'd do ourselves--change jobs, buy a house, etc. No pressure from them to procreate either and they know that at 36, I pretty much know what I want.

So yes, enjoy your 40-ish and 50-ish girlfriends, and don't worry about having another shitty diaper conversation again!
